# Character Death and Resurrection

> What happens when your character dies in LOREKEEPER: single-player revival, multiplayer permanence, and how to survive.

## Death in LOREKEEPER

Death is a real possibility in LOREKEEPER. When your character's hit points reach zero, the consequences depend on whether you are playing solo or with others.

## Single-Player: Reversible Death

In single-player campaigns, death is not the end. Your character can be resurrected, but it comes at a cost: you lose some gold and one item from your inventory. The penalty keeps death meaningful without forcing you to start over.

There are five resurrection methods:

1. **Resurrection scroll**: A rare consumable item found as loot or in shops.
2. **Divine intervention**: A deity restores you, often with a narrative twist.
3. **Resurrection quest**: Complete a trial in the afterlife to earn your return.
4. **NPC healer**: A powerful allied NPC performs the ritual.
5. **Resurrection spell**: A party member or allied caster brings you back.

The AI DM selects the method that fits the narrative context best.

<Tip>Carry healing potions and pay attention to your hit points during combat. Prevention is far cheaper than resurrection.</Tip>

## Multiplayer: Permanent Death

In multiplayer campaigns, death is permanent. When your character falls, they are gone. This raises the stakes considerably and encourages careful strategy, teamwork, and smart resource management.

<Note>Multiplayer permadeath makes every decision matter. Coordinate with your party, share healing items, and avoid reckless charges into overwhelming odds.</Note>

## How to Stay Alive

* Monitor your HP and use healing items before reaching critical levels.
* Equip the best armor and defensive gear available.
* Use the defend action in combat when your character is in danger.
* Focus fire on the most threatening enemies first.
* In multiplayer, support teammates who are taking heavy damage.
