Choose Your Genre, Shape Your Story

LOREKEEPER offers 11 distinct genres, each with its own narrative tone, vocabulary, and equipment style. Your genre choice fundamentally shapes how the AI Dungeon Master tells your story.

Available Genres

Fantasy

  • Classic Fantasy — Swords, sorcery, and heroic quests in a balanced medieval setting.
  • Dark Fantasy — Grim, morally ambiguous worlds where survival is never guaranteed.
  • High Fantasy / Epic — Grand-scale adventures with powerful magic and world-shaking stakes.
  • Soulslike Fantasy — Brutal difficulty, cryptic lore, and punishing encounters inspired by the Souls genre.
  • Japanese Dark Fantasy — Eastern aesthetics meet dark themes, blending samurai honor with supernatural horror.
  • Political Fantasy — Intrigue, alliances, and betrayal. The battlefield is the court.
  • Nine Realms (Norse) — Viking mythology brought to life with gods, giants, and fate.

Science Fiction

  • Space Opera — Starships, alien civilizations, and galaxy-spanning conflict.
  • Cyberpunk — Neon-lit streets, corporate dystopia, and high-tech rebellion.

Other

  • Pirate Adventure — High seas, buried treasure, and swashbuckling action.
  • Cosmic Horror — Unknowable entities, creeping dread, and fragile sanity.

Genre-Aware Equipment

The AI DM adapts equipment to your genre. A fantasy warrior wields enchanted swords and chain mail. A cyberpunk operative carries plasma pistols and neural implants. You never see medieval armor in a space station unless your world design says so.
Not sure which genre to pick? Classic Fantasy is a safe starting point. Dark Fantasy and Cosmic Horror are great for experienced players who want a challenge.

How Genre Affects the AI DM

Your genre selection shapes:
  • Narrative tone — Heroic optimism vs bleak survival vs cosmic dread.
  • Vocabulary — Period-appropriate language and terminology.
  • Encounter design — Combat, puzzles, and social encounters tuned to the genre.
  • NPC behavior — Characters act according to the genre’s conventions and themes.
You can create custom worlds in any genre using the World Builder. Mix genres if you want — a cyberpunk world with magical elements is entirely valid.
