What Are Karmic Dice?

Dice rolls are the heartbeat of any tabletop RPG. Sometimes luck is on your side. Sometimes it is not. LOREKEEPER’s karmic dice system ensures that prolonged streaks of bad luck never ruin your experience.

How It Works

The system is straightforward:
  1. Every failed roll is tracked for your character.
  2. After 5 consecutive failures, your character receives advantage on the next roll.
  3. Advantage means the system rolls twice and takes the better result.
  4. Once you succeed, the failure counter resets to zero.
This creates a natural safety net. You might have a rough stretch, but the game guarantees a helping hand before frustration sets in.
Karmic dice do not guarantee success. They improve your odds significantly after a bad streak, but a particularly difficult check can still fail even with advantage.

Why Karmic Dice Exist

In tabletop RPGs, a string of bad rolls can derail an entire session. A warrior who misses five attacks in a row stops feeling heroic. A rogue who fails every lockpick attempt becomes a liability instead of an asset. Karmic dice address this without removing the randomness that makes dice exciting. The system preserves genuine risk while eliminating the worst-case frustration scenario.

Per-Character Tracking

Karmic dice are tracked individually per character. In a multiplayer campaign, one player’s bad luck streak does not affect another player’s counter. Each character earns their own advantage independently.
Karmic dice work silently in the background. You do not need to activate or manage them. The DM handles everything and will mention when advantage kicks in from the karmic system.
