How NPCs Work
Non-player characters are the people, creatures, and entities that populate your world. The AI DM creates and controls them, giving each one a distinct personality, motivations, and role in the story. NPCs remember past interactions and react based on how you have treated them.Autonomous NPCs
On paid tiers, NPCs gain autonomy. Instead of simply responding when spoken to, autonomous NPCs act independently. They pursue their own goals, form opinions, and may take actions that surprise you. A loyal companion might intervene to protect you in combat, while a suspicious merchant could refuse to trade if they distrust you.Trust and Conflict
LOREKEEPER tracks two relationship metrics for every NPC:- Trust (-100 to +100): How much an NPC trusts your character. High trust unlocks cooperation, secrets, and aid. Low trust leads to suspicion, deception, or hostility.
- Conflict (0 to 100): The level of tension between your character and the NPC. High conflict can escalate to confrontation, even with NPCs who otherwise trust you.
Entity Dossiers
Every significant NPC has an entity dossier, a living document that the DM updates after each round. Dossiers track personality traits, known information, relationship status, and recent events. This ensures the DM portrays each NPC consistently across sessions.NPC Behavior Profiles
The AI DM uses relationship data alongside personality profiles to determine how NPCs respond to you. A brave guard with high trust acts very differently from a cowardly thief with high conflict. These profiles create emergent storytelling that adapts to your choices.Character relationships evolve naturally. There are no dialogue wheels or preset options. Just describe how you want to interact and the DM handles the rest.
